TVEA Spotlight

Good Evening,

There are four bits of TVEA news I would like to share with you since your last Regular Meeting May 15th.

First, on May 16th TVEA presented a TVEA OVATION! Award to teacher Sarah Tostado, nominated by colleague Mary Jimenez. It was our final and 22nd TVEA OVATION! presentation of the year. Our member recognition program was quite successful as we presented awards at 16 school sites. We look forward to continuing this program in 2018-19.

2) On May 23rd we conducted the annual TVEA Principal Recognition Ceremony held at Margarita Middle School.

We appreciate both Superintendent Ritter and Board Clerk Hinkson being in attendance. Recognized by TVEA based on staff feedback were elementary principals Kelly Sunderland (VHES), Shellley Maxwell (PVES), Lisa Brown (LES), and high school principals Nicole Dayus (CHS), and Aimee Ricken (GOHS)

3) On May 30th the Biosustainability Club held an event commemorating the Grand Opening of their on-campus greenhouse. TVEA is involved as the teacher Tobin Brannon applied for and received a maximum $20,000 Institute for Teaching Grant through our parent group CTA. TVEA has served as the fiscal agent for the 2017-18 school year.

It was a great night for all involved. The work accomplished by Mr. Brannon and his students is exemplary. It’s off the charts!

With the support of the site, district, parents, teacher association, community leaders, and community non-profits it has been a TEAM effort.

4) Finally, TVEA held our annual end of the year Retirement Event at the Bridge on 3rd in Old Town. We honored our 2017-18 retirees and shared their memorable teaching and other moments over the years and their plans for retirement.

It was a pleasant Southern California late afternoon on the patio in Old Town. We appreciate Superintendent Ritter stopping by to wish the retirees well and the support Mr. Johnson gave by sharing some words of inspiration with the retirees.

It was a truly busy TVEA May as expected and I am glad it and the 2017-18 Teacher/Student Calendar has passed.

It is time to start looking ahead to 2018-19.

My next TVEA Spotlight will be Tuesday August 21st.
