RIF/Transfer/Reassignment Update

The past two days (April 15 and 16) were grueling.  TVUSD and CTA/TVEA went head to head at the RIF hearings.  I applaud each of you who attended and those who stopped by on breaks and after school to show support.  Each day the entire room was nearly to capacity.  While the hearings are over we are unfortunately left with little to report.  While many actions were initiated by the district we must patiently wait for the ALJ (Administrative Law Judge) to render his opinion.  The anticipated date for that report will be May 9.  We must then wait for the TVUSD school board to take official action once they process the information from the ALJ. While there were indications that changes have been made to the seniority list and some layoffs were “rescinded” by the district it is still premature to discuss the specific details.  Unfortunately it may come down to the May 15 layoff deadline to know for sure who is still at risk.

For those affected by the transfer/reassignment issue TVEA is currently in discussion with senior district officials regarding implementation.  While many have shared the negative side of Mr. Cordner’s informational meeting on April 9, no action has been taken at this time.  What is positive is that the district will discuss the issue with us and we will address each of your rights directly.  We hope to resolve the issue in the days to come.

Your TVEA leaders feel for the turmoil this process has put each of you through.  We are doing our best to ensure your rights are protected.  Please remain patient as we sort through all the unpleasant details.  Be sensitive to one another’s needs and be there for one another.  If you have questions or concerns feel free to contact me at any time.
