Forward
Momentum
Although
much of my high school science
experience has now faded, I do
remember the information our teacher
shared regarding
Newton
’s 1st Law. It states that
what is placed in motion tends to stay
in motion until another force is
applied to it. It can be said that
once the ball is rolling, it doesn’t
take nearly the energy to keep it
doing so. Our local association I
believe is an apt example of this.
Over the last year, TVEA has made a
whole host of changes to the body.
From by-law revisions, adding of
officers, a training dues increase,
holding various summits, office
expansion, and the restructuring and
reconfiguring of our chapter’s
workload, your Executive Board has
sought ways to make your organization
more effective. These last few
months we have reaped some of the
positive rewards from last year’s
diligence. Our new Bargaining
Team has completed initial training
with our local CTA staff, and has
approached the upcoming negotiations
with the TVUSD with both energy and
passion. Instead of the more
traditional beginning point with their
District counterparts, our Team has
chosen to work directly with Ad-Hoc
committees comprised of our own
teachers who have experience in the
areas in which we have contractual
concerns. Not only do we avail
ourselves of internal expertise
regarding matters of importance to our
members, we also give our educators an
opportunity to have their voices
heard. While we affirm
teachers, we also confirm our
commitment as advocates for their
cause. That is the nature of
moving forward. Once begun, the
momentum created then energizes and
perpetuates itself. Thanks go
out to all our TVEA leaders and
membership, for they have shown
through sharing the responsibility,
one can certainly expect those rewards
to multiply.
