the Flyer
The Temecula
Sister City Association raised funds
and is donating copies of a bilingual
book, in English and Japanese, to all
schools in the district.
It is called "Sweet Corn &
Sushi". The "Sweet Corn&
Sushi" Literacy Outreach campaign
is ready to come to all schools in the
district. In addition, TSCA offers a
free program to elementary schools and
middle schools, involving reading the
book in English and parts in Japanese,
providing highlights about the country
and if time permits, an activity such
as origami. In addition, they
are holding a haiku contest as well
(1st prize is a $50 Barnes and Noble
certificate!)
Contact Keri Kubokawa Vogtmann
at the
Temecula Sister City Association by
March 15th to have their volunteers
come to your class. Their literacy
outreach program meshes perfectly with
our Read Across America program and
7th grade Social Studies curriculum
(we study medieval Japan).
Please
promote the haiku contest in your
classroom. It would be so much fun to
see what your students come up
with!
The deadline is April 25th

They
also hold a Japanese Festival in Old
Town Temecula to teach about Japanese
culture & wondered if we had
anyone who'd be willing to read
another children's book on June 1st to
small groups of kids.
If your students are interested
in this, please email Patty at pcasey@tvusd.k12.ca.us
