Sparkman Elementary might be one of our oldest campuses
in the District, but you would
not know it merely visiting.
They are a “Veteran staff of
dedicated and hard-working
teachers”, according to
Principal Pilar Byham, “who
continue to bring new ideas to
their site”. Because the
student population is
increasingly diverse, teachers
have received training in how to
support the needs of our English
learners through a systematic,
research-based ELD program.
Their PLC model of collaboration
has provided teachers time to
share strategies and to “work
smarter not harder”!!
Two programs they are
especially proud of are:
Kids Hope Mentoring Program- It connects caring adults
with students in need of extra
support.
Aunt Bunny’s Bookstore- A student-run bookstore that
allows 5th grade students to
learn life skills regarding
running a business. Students
apply for jobs and must be
interviewed to work in Aunt
Bunny’s.
Keep up your great work for our kids!
